Something about the little things you make me say
Amazed by the ways you be keeping me dazed
Tried to spit game, but these girls don’t play
Bangin’ little waist, with a cute ass face
Something about the little things you make me do
Something about conditioning with no shampoo
Tried to stick around, without the elmers glue
Told anything she needed I would help her through
Rule #1 you gotta quit runnin’ from fools,
campaign or no campaign they runnin’ for you.
I mean the way you do your hair and the way that you move,
Actin’ like you don’t care when deep down you do…
Like the way you ride your bike through the park around 2,
Told her don’t believe the hype, you got play plus juice
And only if its right, I write my love too, no I’m not down I always was Blu(e)
But I knew your favorite color was another (green) butter rican,
Praline dream picked her up for the weekend,
Tried to hide feelings, but the just kept leakin’
Had the M-A-S-K but wasn’t trick-or-treating,
One thing about real love, it’s worth seekin’
What’s the point in cheatin’ when it’s something worth keepin’
She asked why I did it, didn’t really have a reason,
But it’s something ‘bout her grin that had me ch-ch-ch-cheesin
Back of my mind, I had my subconscious speaking,
Note on the door said “Sorry, but I’m leaving.”
The manuscript Blue Lines is the fictional coming of age narrative of a young California woman Key Yemaya Walker, and her 2 year growing journey through school, love, and life period piece, written by Kenneth Suffern, Jr., taking place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between the years of 1997 – 1998. Loosely based on true events, and experiences during that time, told through the eyes and voice of the main female protagonist, a freshman first attending the school.
