“Listening”

Words you offered me,
I listened honestly,
Intently,
Like you listened to me,

A voice I like to hear,
I would rather not speak,
Soak it in,
Maybe you like mine too,

A swollen heart,
Wanting to keep wanting,
Silently,
Finding itself,

Tomorrow is today,
Thank you for making me listen,
Truthfully,
And available for today.

The manuscript Blue Lines is the fictional coming of age narrative of a young California woman Key Yemaya Walker, and her 2 year growing journey through school, love, and life period piece, written by Kenneth Suffern, Jr., taking place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between the years of 1997 – 1998. Loosely based on true events, and experiences during that time, told through the eyes and voice of the main female protagonist, a freshman first attending the school.

Dreaded this posts topic since I started, and still don’t want to post. There is not much I wish I could forget, and this post is a stretch. Life is about living and those experiences, so I can’t really say I hate or wished I hadn’t felt a certain way. That’s all I have to say. The adjustment to the photo, is to capture both a visual and the emotional response.

Eunice Kathleen Waymon (February 21, 1933 – April 21, 2003), better known by her stage name Nina Simone, was an American singer, songwriter, pianist, arranger, and civil rights activist widely associated with jazz music. Simone aspired to become a classical pianist while working in a broad range of styles including classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop.
