As I look back at the year, I could easily expound on life, growth, gratitude, and love in 2015, and how I look forward to continuing those things in 2016. I can easily use vague comments to reference the people I love and hold dear. However, in my posting life, I’ve done that enough, and simply because I feel a certain way, does not mean it resonates.

What do I mean? In all of my “happiness,” and “hopefulness,” I still live in a country that fails to bring justice to the family of a murdered teen. No Life Matters…especially Black, the evidence is growing in support of that. Tamir Rice is another casualty in an increasing epidemic of injudicious police murders in this country. My heart is heavy for a myriad of reasons, this just augments that weight. It makes you wary, but what am I going to do? Lock myself inside and hide from the world? No.

Happy New Year? What about them?

Feeling late 90’s on this one.

[Timbaland (Jay-Z)]
All my mamis bounce, uh
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
(Come on)
I said all my mamis bounce
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah)
(Bounce with me)
I said all my mamis bounce
(Yeah, yeah, uh, uh, uh yeah-yea-yeah, yeah-yea-yeah)
(Come on)
I said all my mamis bounce
(Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah)
Freaky-freaky…

[Jay-Z]
Ay yo I got a resolution
This year I’m playing right
No six fifteen this year
You can stay the night
We can go bowling it ain’t like before
Can’t y’all see that I’m growing?
I was so immature
I was young and having money
Having honeys come to the crib
Thinkin’ they s–t and they couldn’t get cab money from me
Some bad chicks didn’t get pass the bridge

Slowly easing into a new year,
Past mistakes behind,
Moving forward with something new,
What was there to learn,
What did it mean,

Doors opening to new opportunities,
Some reflections of the past,
Some reincarnated anew,
What was there to earn,
What did it mean, Continue reading →

I love the rhyme scheme of this piece. My piece “Ending Is Just Another Word For Goodbye” enlists this scheme.

I.
My first thought was, he lied in every word,
That hoary cripple, with malicious eye
Askance to watch the workings of his lie
On mine, and mouth scarce able to afford
Suppression of the glee, that pursed and scored
Its edge, at one more victim gained thereby.

II.
What else should he be set for, with his staff?
What, save to waylay with his lies, ensnare
All travelers who might find him posted there,
And ask the road? I guessed what skull-like laugh
Would break, what crutch ’gin write my epitaph
For pastime in the dusty thoroughfare.
