What I Learned Sundays

New experiences are cool, but they are better when shared with others.
Sometimes you can be there for a person, by not speaking.
It’s great to be appreciated, when you weren’t trying.
It’s good to be right (Super Bowl) sometimes.
I can’t wait for baseball.
This year in the NFL was underwhelming.
Still trying to figure out how my blog views have been out of this world and seem timed with and offer I received/decision I made. Thank you.
Eating meat by mistake isn’t cool.
New music is always great, sharing is better.
I’m still waiting on that call/e-mail…come on…I’m trying to be patient.
Still smiling.
I find it strange that I see scenes that are similar to Key’s experiences in Blue Lines. It makes me feel better that I “nailed it” in creating her character. I just have to clean up, and finish it now.
Three short stories I’m supposed to be working on are behind.
It’s great to be back in the gym, I have to keep it up.
Sitting around just thinking is not always good.
I have to make my own future.

This last week has been phone week…and I always think I have all the answers…
Like normal, I start with a basic idea, and then events, music, whatever manifest into something that changes the focus of the post. Today was almost a 2 post day, but then I took a moment to look, and notice that it is quicKey Yemaya Walker approaching the 1 year mark of starting this blog, which’s primary objective is to aid in the eventual publishing of my currently titled manuscript Blue Lines.
During what is almost one year, maybe I’ll save that as the anniversary post…focused on current thoughts, in speaking to my dearest friend last night (thank goodness for no long distance charges on cell phones) I forgot to iterate my thoughts on a possible serialization of Blue Lines. Possibly splitting and expanding the novel into four books that play upon the four seasons on my characters’ relationship development. Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Continue reading →

Blue Lines Blog – Issue #17 Practice Fiction

How did I come to this week’s blog? Well I caught up on some television watching and came across a quote to open a writing project…practice. Then I watched a movie, and scrapped the firs blog, to write a new more personal blog…as I began to write it, I remembered giving elements of that story in prior blogs, bits and pieces, but elements of the same story just the same. Therefore, I went back to my first idea, and that is still in the works, therefore I grabbed a practice piece about bystanders or witnesses to a scene in Blue Lines.Reader be warned, there is some strong language and content.

Jason rubbed his head and pulled his coat collar to his neck.
“Damn I didn’t know it got this cold in San Fran,” he whispered as he darted across Howard to get to Starbucks. He looked out to see if his co-worker Will was waiting for him at the coffee shop. After Jason was positioned under the awning he shook off and wiped the water from his sunglasses and face and frowned. The sky was an electric blue and rain fell ferociously. Continue reading →

Writing and music…

Music was very influential and easily supplemented the mood as I made the attempts to relate both the mood of the characters and paint the scene.  When I initially began this project in ’98, my main soundtrack was Joi Gilliam’s (http://joilicious-online.org/home.php ) 1994 The Pendulum Vibe and the sampler of the unreleased classic Amoeba Cleansing Syndrome (damn Rowdy and Freeworld records).  But as I continued to write, there were times that simply hearing a song at a specific time, or for the first time spurred me to write.  While on a 1999 road trip somewhere between Fargo, ND and Spokane, WA, a friend played the song “Jóga” by Björk in his car cassette player (yes, remember those) and I, for the first time, heard this song and grabbed any piece of paper around me in the car to start writing anything to add to my manuscript.  It was the powerful effect that hearing the song for the first time inspired me to write.  Much to the chagrin of the driver, I repeated the song several times until I was told that they did not want to dislike the song and that we had to move on.  Similarly, upon making the return trip, we were listening to local L.A. radio as we took I-10 to return to Atlanta just before I ended up in some place called Blythe (where we had to order some Domino’s Pizza, and eat it on a bench in front of the store in an empty shopping center, when Mary J. Blige’s “Sincerity” feat DMX and Nas was played.  Whoa… I was taken by this song, and the message was of the concept of love, at the very heart, a very central theme in my manuscript.
