I wrote this, and didn’t feel like waiting, so I coupled with Foto Friday.

“Engage”
K.S. 07/12/12
You sat, legs folded,
A smile managed your face,
I peered into your eyes,
Softened,
Inviting,
Brown,
Engaging,
You listened and you spoke, Continue reading →

She told me to stop,
Her bond feared for my safety,
She told me to stop

The manuscript Blue Lines is the fictional coming of age narrative of a young California woman Key Yemaya Walker, and her 2 year growing journey through school, love, and life period piece, written by Kenneth Suffern, Jr., taking place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between the years of 1997 – 1998. Loosely based on true events, and experiences during that time, told through the eyes and voice of the main female protagonist, a freshman first attending the school.

This was predicated by insomnia two days ago. I had to recreate something based on the vague memory of the elements that I had no ability to write. This is not really for the world to understand, and is very cryptic, but if you can, more power to you.

Two (2) Rings
KS 12/13/11

She wanted to talk,
She asked to hear my voice,
She asked how I did it,
I refrained from the past,
What was it like,
I said that was private,
How did you ask,
I sighed,
Was it platinum,
I averted,
She asked if there was a smile,
My silence because my honesty was all for her,
Yes she cried,
Lightly – I said that was not you,
All she wanted to know was my words,
I was silent,
Did the sun shine – did it,
For you, Continue reading →

Blue Lines Blog: What I Learned – The Last Three Months (Spawned By Convo)

So she sits and asks me, “See, you could have had that camera you wanted.”

And I sat back, and quickly pondered a thought that I had already asked and instantly answered. These last three months, less one item that cannot be mentioned, have been exceedingly eye-opening, amazing, and a learning experience. A cursory/limited breakdown:

-I got to say/ask/do something I never said/did, but had always wanted to, and to get an answer.
-Meet my new niece!!!
-Meet my new niece!!!
-Meet my new niece!!!
-I have one of the GREATEST cousins!!!
-Get some character development and city/site information to bolster/delete portions of my manuscript Blue Lines.
-See friends, some of which I had not SEEN since 1995, even surprise friends. Damn that actually applies to a lot now that I think about it.
-Go to the Sam Adams brewery.
-Meet some really new cool people in various places that have become friends…me likey!!!
-See my Atlanta Braves on the road for the first time.
-Go back to Dodger Stadium. Getting a veggie Dodger Dog…lmao.
-Troop New York solo…I’ve never done that. Tribeca, Lower East Side, back to the World Trade.
-Go to Fenway, it would be higher in the list if I had actually gone to a game.
-See my Aunt and Uncle.
-See Prince (again), always primo!!!
-Experience Boston (some).
-Tour Boston.
-Karaoke across the country.
-New restaurants and foods, especially The Smith!!!
-A quick peek into Wine Country.
-Road trippin’.
-Off, On, Off, On…lol.
-All the writing that I’ve done, some based on these experiences.

Therefore, just touching on those brief experiences, and words do not match the emotion, feelings, joy, happiness, sadness expressed during this less than 3 month journey. Like almost all experiences I’ve had, both good and bad, I would not trade them. It’s been a wild and crazy ride, and I’m looking for more…and the publishing of Blue Lines. I can live without the camera and iPad.

It was 2007 the last time I had seen Jamie, and our phone conversations had become more sparce, we seem to coordinate our conversations in different time zones (England/California) better than we do when we’re both on the East Coast. It was enlightening and mind clearing to walk through the Lower East Side, and then discovering this haunt, that I had wanted to see after Vashtie Kola had blogged about it.
The food and service were both amazing, and if I lived here, I would frequent it often.

[Cee-Lo]
Mmmm.. this particular song right here is..
dedicated to the black woman
And it doesn’t pertain to all black women
because some of y’all disrespect y’allself
because you don’t know who you are in the first place
This is out of common respect, for all women period
Word up, like this song, yo

Yo, I’m quite single, and occasionally I mingle
But aside from all the rest, she sparks my interest
No, ma’am, I don’t know you
Just offering the common respect I feel I owe you
Also, some conversation, companionship, common-ground and common-sense
There’s no such thing as coincidence in, me finding you here
And I really hate screaming in your ear, so some other time, OK?
I waited a day *phone rings* Hello?
