This is truly the most real statement in Hip-Hop right now.

[Intro: André 3000]
Aye, aye, so now I’m—

So low that I can see under the skirt of an ant
So low that I don’t get high no more
When I “Geronimo!”, I just go “Eh”

Based on a conversation with my best friend last night and subsequent article that I read upon his recommendation, I felt compelled to share some of the best covers that I have heard. I wanted to identify cover songs that create a new sonic experience that often confuses the listener to whom the song should originally be attributed to. Common examples that come to mind are Jimi Hendrix classic rendition of Bob Dylan’s “Along the Watchtower,” and Johnny Cash’s iconic cover of Nine Inch Nails opus “Hurt,” which I would have preferred to put in the top slot.

[Verse 1]
Yo, it’s the rap up 2012, let’s get this thing crackin’
I’mma tell y’all right now, this whole song gon’ be ratchet
Common threw a shot at Drake, but he ain’t wanna catch it
Giants won the Super Bowl, plus that whole Kony madness
Linsanity had New York on fire like wasabi
And you couldn’t go anywhere without hearing about Blue Ivy
Congrats to Jay and B for adding to they crew
I mean why was y’all so shocked, ain’t that what married people do?
And I’m still in my hoodie cause this violence ain’t stopping
Hope we see justice for the youngin’ Trayvon Martin
And Nicki dissed the fans, bands a make ’em dance
We got that iPhone 5, and ran to Instagram
Brian Mcknight, dumbest song of the year
Let me show how your —– works, but he ain’t get no volunteers
Kim and Kanye, huh, had us all tripping
Yeah, Mary J. Blige was out here singing for chicken
Y’all slipping, man
Bath salt zombies was all over the tubes
Same sex marriages, yes, Obama would approve
Drake met Chris Brown with a bottle in between
D’Angelo came back, LeBron got that ring

“Frank Ocean wrote a fantastic ballad that was truly lovely and poetic in every way, there just wasn’t a scene for it…I could have thrown it in quickly just to have it, but that’s not why he wrote it and not his intention.” ~ Quentin Tarantino on why “Wiseman was omitted from the Django Unchained soundtrack.

Wiseman closed his mouth
Madman closed his fist
Young man shows his age
Judge man named it sin
Bad man don’ exist no
No evil man exists
Good man don’t exist no
No righteous man exists
Sad man cannot cry in place where man can see
Never witnessed father weep
This old man thought it weak
But strong man don’t exist
No undying man exists
Weak man don’t exist no
Just flesh and blood exists
But your mother would be proud of you
I bet your mother would be proud of you
