Finally…

The first day I logged into social media, and created any profile was for my writing career. The main focus is my manuscript, Blue Lines.

Though it is not my manuscript Blue Lines, as of yet, I have finally published a piece that encompasses elements of my manuscript and the life and times, and experiences beyond. Many times I am nonplussed in my reactions, but I am happy that I did this.

I and nervous and proud of my electronic release of my collection of short and long form poems entitled, Under a Blue Sky: Selected Love Poems. It can be purchased in electronic form on Amazon.com.

Here https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GU1P6O2

Thank you for your support over the years, and your continued support.

The manuscript Blue Lines is the fictional coming of age narrative of a young California woman Key Yemaya Walker, and her 2 year growing journey through school, love, and life period piece, written by Kenneth Suffern, Jr., taking place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between the years of 1997 – 1998. Loosely based on true events, and experiences during that time, told through the eyes and voice of the main female protagonist, a freshman first attending the school.

She glanced at him,
Unwilling to save the obvious,
Door opened, door closed,
Knowing her willing mistakes,
But mired by emotional pride,
Door opened, door closed,
Doors closing with a crack,
He, over time was pushed, stepped away,
Door opened, door closed, Continue reading →

Today family and family friend’s celebrate my father’s 75th birthday, the Platinum anniversary. It is amazing to think of all the things that he’s seen, experienced and done during that time.

He’s lived through World War II, served in Korea, was station and boxed in Japan. Saw Vietnam, 2 Gulf Wars. He saw the World Trade Center erected and saw the day that it fell.

Many things that we were taught through school he experienced, the Civil Rights movement and was around during the Black Panthers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King, Jr. he saw the first man go to the moon, the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, and Robert Kennedy. Witnessed to U.S. Presidents go through impeachment processes. Saw Mandela jailed, and then freed and saw him speak in Atlanta at Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd stadium.

Alright, to switch it up…something different, the continuation of the interview with Blue Lines author Kenneth A. Suffern, Jr.

I: What inspires you?

KS: Life and experiences. Not mine, per se, but life and living in general.

I: Every writer has a method to his or her writing. On a typical writing day, how would you spend your time?

KS: In the beginning, my writing consisted of specific items. My (or borrowed) computer, my disks set out, I file of pictures relating to the story opened on the machine, some paper and music, whether playing on the computer (now iPod, or whatever).

I: How long does it take for you to complete a book you would allow someone to read?

KS: I would say that if I am focused on one piece of work, possibly about a year and a half to two years.

I: Do you write right through or do you revise as you go along?

KS: With Blue Lines I wrote the manuscript all the way through, and then I returned to the work to revise.

Alright, to switch it up…something different, an interview of the Blue Lines author Kenneth A. Suffern, Jr.

I: When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

KS: I am not sure if it was my knowing that I wanted to be a writer, but in the mid eighties, while in parochial school. A student wrote a science fiction story that incorporated all of the students within our 7th grade class. I was amazed at the project, not by the product of his work, but the ability to weave a story and incorporate students, teachers, and faculty into a cohesive story. Within the same year, I tried to resurrect his story in a creative writing piece, but failed miserably. After that, I was not sure that I necessarily wanted to write, but slowly transitioned into writing prose.

I: How long does it take you to write a book?

KS: Blue Lines took about 2 years to write, around 1998 – 2000, but being my first work, and also a cathartic release I have recently began the process of trying to shop it.

Origins of Blue Lines manuscript…Part 2.3

… The Definition of Insanity cont.

In my attempts to keep my blog schedule consistent, I have to move in a different direction, but also keep with the nature and idea and essence of the origins of my manuscript.  While brainstorming about this installment, I thought that 1) I had drifted off course last week, and ended up rambling; 2) tried to focus on my responsibility in the path I walked along to get to the point of writing my manuscript.  If I were writing today, a great title, or a song title rather, that best describes this work would be “Intuition,” by Feist (if you are reading on MySpace it is in my playlist).

“And it’s impossible to tell

How important something was

And what you might have missed out on

And how it might have changed it all…

…Did I miss out on you.”

These lines perfectly sum up my situation, and why I wrote.  When something does not happen, in this case a relationship, you are always left to wonder…what if?  Therefore I used that “what if,” as the crux of finally taking the few pages that I had written, and determining the story, and true structure of my work.  I looked back at what I did wrong, or what I did not do.  I did not have that opportunity to fix what was not done, thus Blue Lines.
