I remember hearing this song in Tower Records in the 90’s and I had to find and buy the album. I was not aware that it was Cree Summer from A Different World, nor did I know that she was a Lenny Kravitz adjacent artist.

The manuscript Blue Lines is the fictional coming of age narrative of a young California woman Key Yemaya Walker, and her 2 year growing journey through school, love, and life period piece, written by Kenneth Suffern, Jr., taking place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between the years of 1997 – 1998. Loosely based on true events, and experiences during that time, told through the eyes and voice of the main female protagonist, a freshman first attending the school.

Funny that my first choice today was Bjork’s “Hyper-Ballad,” directed by Michel Gondry, who also directed this video. When I switched my thinking to a less obscure artists, my first choice was Lenny Kravitz, “If You Can’t Say No,” but I eventually chose “Believe In Me,” from his album Lenny. I need you to believe in me. I need to believe in you and us too (2012 edit)

Today family and family friend’s celebrate my father’s 75th birthday, the Platinum anniversary. It is amazing to think of all the things that he’s seen, experienced and done during that time.

He’s lived through World War II, served in Korea, was station and boxed in Japan. Saw Vietnam, 2 Gulf Wars. He saw the World Trade Center erected and saw the day that it fell.

Kennedy, and Robert Kennedy. Witnessed to U.S. Presidents go through impeachment processes. Saw Mandela jailed, and then freed and saw him speak in Atlanta at Georgia Tech’s Bobby Dodd stadium.
