“Thrice”

Wordless night, your eyes spoke volumes,
Moments etched in the past, abstractly re-lived,
And with that it was over, a history complete,
Inspired to close the door, the ink drew dry,
No heart, no love, no future,
Once…and forever…chapter end,

your eyes were the first thing I saw
slanted and your gaze hazed
braids and your continued stares intrigued me
then you pressed
death and pain left my heart chained
but you hid your pain
your soft voice and sudden stares
your heart became aware, but like that you were gone

you entered again
blind gazes took you past
until you realized who I was
the meaning I gave you
and the joy I brought your heart
we stood to talk for hours
black & mild within grasp
gone from my life was sorrow
for you I should take that chance

A friend introduced us,
So I met her at Coachella,
Trips to California to enjoy…
I was in the midst of a bad romance,
Two years…two long,
We discussed you,
I forgot you,
While talking to my New York interest,
I knew we were a match,
Well versed,
Dressed,
Sophisticated,
Perfect match,
I courted her,
Until she chose someone else,
Broken-hearted…a bit,
I found a California Angel,

Your breath was harried,
Your chest tight,
Burning,
I watched you,
Protecting you,
The wind blew cool,
Rough,

We were a long way from home,

Your body betrayed your mind,
Pressing closer,
My breath warmed the nape,
Of your neck,
Signaled your body to,
Press closer,
I tried to maintain control,
