So she sits and asks me, “See, you could have had that camera you wanted.”

And I sat back, and quickly pondered a thought that I had already asked and instantly answered. These last three months, less one item that cannot be mentioned, have been exceedingly eye-opening, amazing, and a learning experience. A cursory/limited breakdown:

-I got to say/ask/do something I never said/did, but had always wanted to, and to get an answer.
-Meet my new niece!!!
-Meet my new niece!!!
-Meet my new niece!!!
-I have one of the GREATEST cousins!!!
-Get some character development and city/site information to bolster/delete portions of my manuscript Blue Lines.
-See friends, some of which I had not SEEN since 1995, even surprise friends. Damn that actually applies to a lot now that I think about it.
-Go to the Sam Adams brewery.
-Meet some really new cool people in various places that have become friends…me likey!!!
-See my Atlanta Braves on the road for the first time.
-Go back to Dodger Stadium. Getting a veggie Dodger Dog…lmao.
-Troop New York solo…I’ve never done that. Tribeca, Lower East Side, back to the World Trade.
-Go to Fenway, it would be higher in the list if I had actually gone to a game.
-See my Aunt and Uncle.
-See Prince (again), always primo!!!
-Experience Boston (some).
-Tour Boston.
-Karaoke across the country.
-New restaurants and foods, especially The Smith!!!
-A quick peek into Wine Country.
-Road trippin’.
-Off, On, Off, On…lol.
-All the writing that I’ve done, some based on these experiences.

Therefore, just touching on those brief experiences, and words do not match the emotion, feelings, joy, happiness, sadness expressed during this less than 3 month journey. Like almost all experiences I’ve had, both good and bad, I would not trade them. It’s been a wild and crazy ride, and I’m looking for more…and the publishing of Blue Lines. I can live without the camera and iPad.

The manuscript Blue Lines is the fictional coming of age narrative of a young California woman Key Yemaya Walker, and her 2 year growing journey through school, love, and life period piece, written by Kenneth Suffern, Jr., taking place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between the years of 1997 – 1998. Loosely based on true events, and experiences during that time, told through the eyes and voice of the main female protagonist, a freshman first attending the school.

First, I have to say, my (female) cousin is trying to get us to bust some guns…I’d actually listen to her, lol.
Rather than repost, and rehash some of my original posts, I thought to give an enlightened 2011 view of things. Currently, I am in the final personal revision stage (because I have some limited material, and some material to delete) and then it will go off to a professional editor, for the final edits.

Honestly, to carry on yesterday’s theme, Blue Lines is my child. I have never officially pushed my manuscript to be published, because I was not ready for my child/daughter/son to leave. However, Blue Lines, has been previously been delivered to and editor. Granted at that time, the only current copyright from my manuscript was for the original 21 page work, not that current version or any of the original artwork (that has since, been updated).

None-the-less, I will set the scene for the first foray in publishing for Blue Lines. It was in 2009, around the same time that the organization the Atlanta [#####] that I was working for hit their first major milestone.

Circa August/September 2009 over fresh sushi a Sam Adams and wine at Thrive ATL.
“What do you do in your free time, when you’re not working for the [#####], [#####], or consulting in Los Angeles for the [######],” she asked.
“I write,” I simply smiled.
“About,” she asked interested, because we were friends, I was willing to embellish to some point.
“Well, I’m working on four manuscripts, however, I’ve begun finalizing a manuscript I began in 1998.”
“What is it about,” she continued, genuinely interested. Continue reading →

Origins of Blue Lines manuscript…Part 2.3

… The Definition of Insanity cont.

In my attempts to keep my blog schedule consistent, I have to move in a different direction, but also keep with the nature and idea and essence of the origins of my manuscript.  While brainstorming about this installment, I thought that 1) I had drifted off course last week, and ended up rambling; 2) tried to focus on my responsibility in the path I walked along to get to the point of writing my manuscript.  If I were writing today, a great title, or a song title rather, that best describes this work would be “Intuition,” by Feist (if you are reading on MySpace it is in my playlist).

“And it’s impossible to tell

How important something was

And what you might have missed out on

And how it might have changed it all…

…Did I miss out on you.”

These lines perfectly sum up my situation, and why I wrote.  When something does not happen, in this case a relationship, you are always left to wonder…what if?  Therefore I used that “what if,” as the crux of finally taking the few pages that I had written, and determining the story, and true structure of my work.  I looked back at what I did wrong, or what I did not do.  I did not have that opportunity to fix what was not done, thus Blue Lines.
