A dream,
A nightmare,
Solitude,
Emptiness,
And insatiable appetite for you, Continue reading →

I’ve been more chances than I deserve,
More rope than I deserve,
More people than I deserve,
But then I become than others deserve…

Where was I when you needed me?
Despite you silence, your fear…
Where was I when you gave me your support?
In my heart you stayed dear, Continue reading →

The manuscript Blue Lines is the fictional coming of age narrative of a young California woman Key Yemaya Walker, and her 2 year growing journey through school, love, and life period piece, written by Kenneth Suffern, Jr., taking place at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill between the years of 1997 – 1998. Loosely based on true events, and experiences during that time, told through the eyes and voice of the main female protagonist, a freshman first attending the school.

Blue Lines, Chapel Hill, Chapter 8, Devolution Of Friendship, Key Yemaya Walker, UNC, UNC Chapel Hill, Untitled, Words Speak The Truth

This piece is from the same scene as “Devolution Of Friendship,” from Chapter 8: Words Speak The Truth. The scene takes place at the fictional World Wide Lounge in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Keypsiia and her friend Azul are attending a poetry reading, and Blue Hurt happens to appear and perform after a brief absence from the establishment. The scene continues with the reading of the aforementioned piece and ends with a pivotal story arc.

The attached piece “Untitled,” was a random piece that I had worked on in the late 90’s. At that time I felt that an untitled work was “deep,” and with much more substance to the manuscript, I never returned to name the piece. Subsequently later on, I noticed that EVERYONE names their works/paintings/photography/etc. “Untitled,” and I found that comical. With that said, here’s “Untitled.”

the cold moon bears upon my soul,
I often wonder why my world is so cold,
my steps sink into hot cracked concrete,
but each time I rise and conquer defeat,
why do I feel the pain of all the ages,
back when my people were slaves of the sages,
now the jungle called the city beckons,
wherever I roam from my home to the forbidden,
I will always be sorry but run from my sin,
in a sordid land that I can and will never call mine,
as I step through the eternal darkness I lose time,
who am I? I yell to the evening sun,
why does turmoil leave my heart undone,
as the cold moon bears upon my soul,
I still wonder why my world is so cold.
